About Me
I'm William, and I graduated in 2023 with a Bachelor of Science (Mathematics & Statistics) /
Bachelor of Science (Computer Science) at the University of New South Wales.
My professional experience commenced in 2021, with a six-month internship as a Site Reliability
Engineer at Optus, where I built dynamic dashboards and devised automation scripts for alerts to
ultimately improve the health monitoring of various systems. Subsequently, I joined as a Software
Engineering Intern at Macquarie Group in the Asset Management Investments Division, and my
enriching experience prompted me to continue upskilling myself there on a part-time basis for almost two
years. In this capactiy, my responsibilities included the fullstack maintenance of a voting application, as
well as orchestrating the ETL development of a Python service dedicated to seamlessly ingesting trade data
into the database. In November 2023, I landed the opportunity to be a Software Developer Intern at
Atlassian, where I not only gained exposure into the tasks within the Observability Platforms
team, but upon learning to code in Go, I also spearheaded a command-line application to facilitate a
smoother tracing workflow for support engineers. Currently, I am a Graduate Software Engineer at
Macquarie Group within the Home Loan Application Enrichment team, playing a role to contribute to
the Java backend systems and leveraging my skills and experiences to drive innovation and efficiency.
Furthermore, I have been a tutor at UNSW for a significant number of terms, teaching
introductory programming, low-level computer systems and database courses to both domestic and international
students. It is immensely rewarding to offer personalised help and witness students of varying levels
flourish, effortlessly mastering concepts after my explanations in a digestible manner. I have also been an
active member of multiple uni societies, most notably serving as the IT/Publications Director at the
Data Science Society for two years. Apart from looking at some form of screen, I find joy in
running (especially near the water like the beach), hiking, leisure badminton and I'm also reigniting my
interest in playing the piano. 😊
From a young age, I've been deeply intrigued by the powerful applications that computers can perform,
stimulating my aspiration to benefit human lives through technology, research and innovation.
Although I'm grateful for my personal and professional development from past opportunities, I feel naturally
excited about the challenges that lie ahead of me!
